Audit management on SAP BTP
For organisations already invested in SAP: the same users, the same roles, the same interface world — without quality management becoming a side project of an S/4HANA rollout.
The pattern that repeats in S/4HANA projects
In many ERP rollouts quality joins the table late — usually once scope, timeline and budget are largely fixed. The QM module ships technically complete but is configured only at its core: inspection planning, inspection lots, certificates. The audit part is left behind.
The result is paradoxical: the organisation owns the capability but does not use it, while the actual audit work runs in parallel through spreadsheets and email. I covered this in more detail in SAP QM Module: Where Audit Management Hits Its Limits.
What qportal contributes in an SAP landscape
Mobile, Fiori-native execution. Auditors work on the plant floor from a tablet or phone. Findings are created during the audit rather than transcribed in the evening.
One continuous path from finding to effectiveness check, including automatic reminders for open actions.
Structured root cause analysis. 5-Why and 8D following the VDA structure — an area for which SAP Audit Management (CA-AUD) offers no counterpart according to SAP’s own help documentation. Details in the comparison with S/4HANA Audit Management.
Connection to existing identities. No second user directory, no separate role maintenance.
It works just as well without SAP
The technical foundation is SAP BTP; it is not a precondition for use. In the hosted option no infrastructure work falls to you at all. The SAP stack is therefore a quality signal — enterprise security, multi-tenancy, an established interaction model — and not a barrier to entry.
Frequently asked questions
- Does qportal replace the SAP QM module?
- No. qportal is a complement. Inspection planning, inspection lots and certificates stay in the QM module; qportal covers the audit lifecycle and root cause analysis — the part frequently deferred in S/4HANA projects for time or budget reasons.
- Do I need my own BTP subaccount?
- No. You can run qportal in your own BTP landscape or use the hosted option. Without an SAP landscape it works the same way.
- How does sign-in work?
- Via SAP Cloud Identity Services or XSUAA with OAuth 2.0 and role-based authorisation. In the SAP variant users sign in with their existing identity.
- What is it built on?
- SAP BTP Cloud Foundry, SAP CAP with CDS and Node.js, SAP Fiori Elements on SAPUI5, SAP HANA Cloud or PostgreSQL, OData V4 with draft support. The application is multi-tenant capable and modules are licensable individually.
